Extending the Festival Experience

The AfterImage visual identity was designed to live far beyond the screen. Rule29 applied the system across community posters, theater signage, event tickets, merchandise, social campaigns, promotional materials, and environmental graphics to create a cohesive and immersive festival experience at every touchpoint.

Each year, the festival introduces a new creative theme and visual campaign, allowing the experience to evolve while keeping audiences engaged, giving collectors and attendees something new to connect with, and reinforcing the idea that every year brings a different story worth remembering. Each year, the festival needed a visual identity that could capture the spirit of dozens of films in a single image. The posters had to work hard: intrigue passersby, set the tone for the festival experience, and honor the depth of stories being shared on screen. Our approach was to distill the emotional core of each year's programming into bold, thoughtful design that felt cinematic without relying on literal imagery. The result is a growing collection of posters that function as visual invitations, each one a quiet promise of the stories waiting inside.

The interactive experience helps festival goers explore films, create personalized schedules, and receive their festival lineup directly through the platform. The site also connects audiences to where films can be streamed after the festival, includes ratings and information across different platforms, and features an AI-powered experience that provides festival details, historical insights, movie trivia, and interactive games that extend engagement beyond the screenings themselves.

The digital-first strategy was built to make the festival feel immersive, accessible, and community-driven before, during, and long after the event. Through social storytelling, motion graphics, AI-enabled interaction, and ongoing digital engagement, the AfterImage experience continues to evolve while keeping audiences connected to the power of film and storytelling.
